Dhaka: A Dhaka court on Tuesday imposed a travel ban on former Vice-Chancellors of National University (NU), Md Mashiur Rahman and Harun-or-Rashid, in connection with a graft case. Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge and Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Foyez issued the order following a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), as stated by the court’s bench assistant, Riaz Hossain.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the petition for the travel ban was submitted by ACC deputy director Joynal Abedin. The move is in response to allegations of various irregularities and corruption involving the National University authorities. A three-member inquiry committee has been established to delve into these allegations.
The imposition of the travel ban is deemed necessary to ensure a thorough investigation into the alleged irregularities and corruption by the university’s former VCs. The restrictions aim to prevent any potential interference with the inquiry process, thereby facilitating a proper investigation.
