Chattogram: Nineteen used engines, various types of old motor parts, and fragments of two vehicles have been recovered from an imported consignment at the Chattogram port. Customs Intelligence and the Chattogram Custom House Inland Container Depot (ICD) authorities confirmed the matter after inspecting the consignment.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) sources revealed that the consignment was declared to have imported used motor parts and engines from Japan, vide bill of entry number C-9766, on July 30. Acting on a tip-off, the consignment was intercepted in the ICD area on September 1.
The importing firm is Maetree Automobile, located on Arakan Road in the Chandgaon area of Chattogram, while the CandF agent JP Express Limited was responsible for clearing the goods. Customs sources said the consignment was subjected to a 'force keep down' on September 15. Subsequently, manual inspections conducted over two days revealed the aforementioned engines, parts, and vehicle components.
Authorities stated that they are verifying whether the physical inspection matches the original declaration. The preparation of the test report is currently underway. Upon verification, if any discrepancies are found, applicable duties, taxes, and legal actions will be determined.
