Dhaka: The government has formed an 18-member new committee to amend the Fire Prevention and Extinction Rules, 2014. The Home Ministry on Tuesday issued an office order signed by its Senior Assistant Secretary of the Fire-2 Branch of the Security Services Division Asma-UL-Husna in this connection.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Additional Secretary (Security and External Media) of the Home Ministry has been appointed as the chairman of the committee. Other members of the committee include the Director General of the Fire Service and Civil Defense Department, and representatives from various organizations such as the Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, Rajdhani Unnayan Kartipakhya (RAJUK), and several regional development authorities including Chittagong, Khulna, Rajshahi, and Gazipur. Additionally, the committee includes members from the Department of Architecture, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), and the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA), among others.
The office order specifies that the committee is tasked with examining and amending the 'Fire Prevention and Extinguishing Rules 2014', which were approved by the Fire Service and Civil Defense Directorate under the Security Services Division. The committee's mandate is to review the existing rules and formulate a revised version that is up to date. They are expected to submit the draft of the revised rules to the Security Services Division within two months.
Furthermore, the committee has been given the authority to increase the number of its members if deemed necessary to fulfill its objectives.
