Dhaka: A total of 174 Bangladeshi nationals have been repatriated from Libya, arriving at Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 5:10 am on Monday aboard a Burak Air flight.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported the successful coordination of this repatriation effort.
The operation was a joint effort by the Bangladesh Embassy in Libya, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment, and the International Organization for Migration (IOM). The majority of the returnees had initially entered Libya with the intention of traveling illegally to Europe via human traffickers. During their stay, they faced numerous challenges, including abductions and abuse.
Officials from the foreign ministry and the IOM met the returning nationals at the airport, encouraging them to share their harrowing experiences to help raise public awareness on the dangers of illegal migration. Each returnee was provided with travel allowances, food supplies, basic medical care, and temporary shelter by the IOM.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, alongside the Bangladesh Embassy in Libya, the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment, and the International Organization for Migration, continues to work together to ensure the safe return of Bangladeshi nationals held in various detention centers across Libya.
