Dhaka: The district administration has successfully recovered 1,577 bags of chemical fertilizer following raids on three godowns in Khansama upazila of Dinajpur. The operations were initiated on the grounds of allegations concerning the illegal stockpiling of fertilizer.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the mobile court, led by executive magistrates, imposed fines amounting to Taka 140,000 on the owners of the implicated godowns. The authorities further sealed the premises as part of the enforcement action. The raids unfolded at Tongua Bazar and Pakerhat in Khansama upazila, marking significant interventions conducted at 4:30 pm today and Thursday night.
Khansama Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Kamruzzaman affirmed the developments to BSS. Insights from the mobile court revealed that a raid was executed at M/S Asaduzzaman Traders, a BCIC-approved fertilizer dealership located at Tongua Bazar, following allegations of unauthorized fertilizer stockpiling. This action resulted in the confiscation of 207 bags of chemical fertilizer.
Sources highlighted that the dealership was being managed by Nazrul Islam in the absence of the dealer, Asaduzzaman, who has been in Dhaka for an extended period. Consequently, Nazrul Islam faced a penalty of Taka 50,000 for the unauthorized stockpiling activities.
Simultaneously, a raid at M/S Mahadev Traders at Pakerhat led to the recovery of 450 bags of fertilizer. The establishment's proprietor, Mahitosh Chandra Chanda, a BADC-registered fertilizer dealer, was fined Taka 40,000 for stockpiling beyond permissible limits, and the godown was sealed accordingly.
The operation was spearheaded by Dinajpur District Administration Executive Magistrate Adnan Kabir Uday, alongside Khansama Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Executive Magistrate Kamruzzaman Sarkar. The team included Upazila Agriculture Officer Yasmin Akter, police, and relevant agriculture department officials.
Furthermore, the raid on M/S Roni Traders' godown on Thursday from 8 pm to 10:30 pm resulted in the seizure of 920 bags of fertilizer. Khansama Upazila Nirbahi Officer Kamruzzaman Sarkar announced that the seized fertilizers would be made available to local farmers at government-mandated prices tomorrow, ensuring the resources are redirected to benefit the community.
