15 Killed, 8 Injured as Truck Overturns in Tangail

Tangail: At least 15 people were killed and eight others injured as a truck carrying iron rods plunged into a roadside ditch on the Dhaka-Tangail-Northern region Highway near the eastern side of the Jamuna Bridge at Jokarchar in Kalihati upazila of Tangail district early Monday.



According to United News of Bangladesh, twelve of the deceased have been identified. They include Sagor Mia, 20, son of Sakim Mia; Rabiul Islam, 25, son of Shahidul Islam; Barik, 21, son of Abdur Rashid; Badsha, 32, son of Rahim; Yeakub, 20, son of Ekabbar Ali; and Tarek, 20, son of Sultan, all from Rajendrabari village in Manda upazila. Others identified are Sariqul, 25, son of Saidul from Malanchi village in Niamatpur upazila; Gias, 20, son of Rashid; Mainul, 28 from Pakuria village in Manda upazila of Naogaon district; Ismail Hossain, 19, son of Altaf Hossain from Tanore upazila in Rajshahi district; Nazrul Islam, 60 from Shibganj upazila; and Mamun, 45 from Sadar upazila in Chapainawabganj district.



Manjurul Alam, additional superintendent of Tangail (Kalihati circle) police, stated that the accident occurred around 4:15 am. The truck, which was heading towards the Northern region from Chattogram, was carrying 25 people on board when it plunged into the roadside ditch, resulting in 15 fatalities on the spot and injuries to eight others.



Upon receiving information, police and fire service personnel rushed to the scene and recovered the bodies. The injured individuals were transported to Tangail General Hospital for medical treatment. It was noted that all the deceased had boarded the truck from the Mohipal area of Feni district.



Shamsul Alam Sarker, superintendent of Tangail police, along with other top police officials, visited the accident site.
