Dhaka: A total of 144 political parties have applied to the Election Commission (EC) for registration ahead of the upcoming 13th National Parliament election. The EC has identified a lack of information after scrutinizing the registration forms submitted by all the political parties. Consequently, the EC has sent letters to all the parties, granting them 15 days to correct the information.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, EC Secretariat Additional Secretary KM Ali Newaz stated that the commission will conduct investigations into the parties that manage to fulfill the conditions within the given timeframe. No investigations will be carried out for parties that fail to meet the conditions.
A total of 144 parties submitted their applications to the EC before the deadline for submission, which was June 22. These submissions included necessary documents required for the registration process.
Twenty officials from the EC Secretariat are currently working on preparing a report after scrutinizing the applications of the 144 parties. During a committee meeting, it was decided to grant time for correcting errors as per the registration rules. Following the scrutiny of applications, the commission plans to conduct a field-level investigation to verify whether the remaining parties meet the registration conditions.
