Dhaka: Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury today announced that approximately 14.34 lakh farmers nationwide have benefited from an agricultural loan waiver, which includes interest up to Tk 10,000 each. This program has been in effect since the current government assumed office, with benefits expected to continue until July 2026.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the finance minister shared this information while responding to a scripted question from opposition lawmaker Md. Ruhul Amin of the Chuadanga-2 constituency during a session at the Jatiya Sangsad. The minister stated that the government has disbursed Tk 1,352.74 crore to various banks to cover the loans of farmers included in this waiver initiative. Farmers in all upazilas across the nation have reportedly benefited from this program.
Additionally, in response to a separate inquiry regarding the number of taxpayers in the Chuadanga district, the finance minister revealed that the district currently has 72,463 Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) holders. Of these, 21,567 taxpayers have filed their income tax returns for the 2025-26 tax year.
