13 get 4-yr jail for vandalism, arson attacks in Brahmanbaria

A court here today sentenced 13 accused to four years imprisonment each in a case filed over vandalising temples and carrying out arson attacks in Nasirnagar of the district 2016.

Chief Judicial Magistrate of Brahmanbaria Masud Parvez delivered the verdict this afternoon.

The court also fined Taka 2,000 each, court Inspector Kazi Didarul Alam told BSS.

The convicts are Md Mokhles Miah, Md Mofizul Haque, Khasru Mia, Najir Rahman, Md Mahfuz Miah, Indu Miah, Sheikh Md Abdul Ahad, Saiham Rabbi Shayam, Meer Kashem, Anis Miah, Tabarak Reza, Sajib Chowdhury and Atiqur Rahman Ankhi.

All of them are residents of different areas of Nasirnagar Upazila.

Of them, eight convicts were present at the court and five have remained absconding.

On October 30 in 2016, a section of people carried out arson attacks and vandalism at the homes and temples of Hindu community in Nasirnagar upazila sadar.

Eight separate cases were lodged with Nasirnagar thana in connection with the incident.

The court handed down the verdict of the cases.
