Dinajpur: The district police carried out a special operation resulting in the arrest of 46 individuals, including 13 leaders and activists of the banned Awami League (AL), from various regions of the district over the past 24 hours.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the police confirmed that these 13 AL leaders and activists were implicated in multiple cases related to last year's July mass uprising and have been arrested in connection with those cases. Among the remaining 33 detainees, 17 were identified as having outstanding warrants, while 16 were accused in different cases.
Inspector of Dinajpur Sadar Court, Md Aminul Islam, stated that all those apprehended were presented before the senior judicial magistrate court, which subsequently ordered their detention in jail.
In Bochaganj upazila, the arrested AL leaders and activists include Md Aftab Uddin, President of Chhatail union AL, Md Rezaul Islam Reza, member of Setabganj Poura AL, Md Lition Parvez, general secretary of Murshidhat Union AL, Md Tozamul Haque, president of Nafanagar union Juba League, Md Shahjahan Ali, general secretary of Nafanagar Union AL, and Faruk Hossain, vice president of Ranogaon union Juba League.
Additionally, the police apprehended three other leaders from Birampur upazila. These are Md Abdul Malek Mondal, Chairman and president of Dior union AL, along with its vice president and joint secretary, Kamruzzaman and Rubel Hossain.
In a related effort, Birol thana authorities arrested three AL leaders from various locations within the upazila. They are Sobahan Ali, president of Bijora union AL, Rezaul Islam Reza, convener of Birol Poura Juba League, and Papelur Rahman Pavel, president of the banned Chhatra League Azimpur union of the upazila.
Furthermore, Kotwali thana police apprehended AL leader Ranjit Saha from the sadar upazila.
