Dhaka: Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury informed Parliament today that, on average, 13.6 lakh people aged 15 years and above enter the job market in Bangladesh every year. This data comes from the Labour Force Survey, 2024.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Khosru presented these statistics while responding to a starred question from treasury bench lawmaker Joynal Abdin (Feni-2) during the question-and-answer session in the House. The latest Labour Force Survey was conducted in 2024 through a project titled “Improving Labour Market Information through Labour Force Survey,” implemented by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).
The survey reveals that the total labour force in the country, defined as employed and unemployed individuals aged 15 years and above, is 7 crore 17 lakh 10 thousand. This includes 4 crore 80 lakh 20 thousand men and 2 crore 36 lakh 90 thousand women.
Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury reiterated that, on average, 13.6 lakh people aged 15 years and above join the labour market in the country each year. He also mentioned that a project proposal is currently under review at the Planning Commission to conduct the next Labour Force Survey in 2026.
