12 Members of Honey-Trap Gang Arrested in City

Dhaka: Dhaka Metropolitan Police has arrested 12 members of a honey-trap gang, including two women, from the city’s various places. The arrested individuals are Tulia Akhter alias Sumi, 20, Dulali alias Meem, 20, Md Omar Faruk, 32, Md Shafiqul Islam Shanto, 38, Md Sajal Talukder, 38, Yeasin, 43, Md Nasir Khan, 46, Saddam, 34, Mehedi Hasan Shahria, 30, Azizul Hakim Tutul, 32, Md Kamrul Islam, 38, and Md Rabbi, 25.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, police reported that members of the gang kidnapped two individuals from the Sayedabad Janapada intersection area and took them to a house in the Matuail area on January 11. The kidnappers took compromising photos of the abducted individuals with two women and demanded a ransom of Taka 10 lakh, threatening to circulate the photos on social media if the ransom was not paid, as stated by DMP’s media and public relations division deputy commissioner Muhammad Talebur Rahman.

In a separate incident, a woman lured a man to her house following an interaction on social media. Upon entering the house, a group of seven people assaulted him, demanding Tk 8 lakh. The victim ended up giving Taka 48,500 in cash along with two gold rings weighing 1 bhori. Additionally, the victim transferred Taka 446,500 to them through bKash, police reported.

Two separate cases have been filed in connection with these incidents at Demra and Jatrabari police stations. Investigations into the two incidents revealed that the arrested individuals are part of the same gang.

Utilizing intelligence information and technology, separate teams from Jatrabari and Demra police stations conducted raids at different locations on February 15 and 16, leading to the arrest of 12 members. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang and to pursue legal action against the arrestees.
