Dhaka: A team of Jatrabari Police Station has arrested 12 members of an organised mobile phone smuggling and trading syndicate, recovering 62 stolen mobile phones from their possession during a drive in the Shanir Akhra area in the capital.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the arrests were made around 8:30 pm on March 24 during a raid conducted at the slope of Shanir Akhra Bridge on the Dhaka-Chattogram outgoing highway following a tip-off, a Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) release stated.
The individuals taken into custody were identified as Emdad alias Iddat Sheikh, Md Faruk, Abu Bakkar Siddiq, Md Rubel, Abdur Razzak, Md Mizan, Md Alamgir, Md Mamun, Md Rashed, Md Shamsul Haque Milon, Din Islam, and Md Saidul Islam. During the drive, police recovered 62 stolen mobile phones of different models from their possession and filed a regular case with Jatrabari Police Station.
The police report reveals that the arrestees are active members of an organised syndicate. This group is known to collect stolen mobile phones from thieves across the country at low prices and sell them at different locations in Dhaka, including the Jatrabari area. The accused reportedly made confessional statements during preliminary interrogation.
