Dhaka: The 11th edition of the international technology trade show, LEATHERTECH Bangladesh 2025, has commenced in Dhaka, focusing on leather, footwear machinery, shoe materials, chemicals, and accessories for the footwear and leather goods sector. The event was inaugurated at the Expo Village of the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB).
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the event was inaugurated by Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun, the Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), who served as the chief guest. Syed Nasim Manzur, the President of the Leathergoods and Footwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association of Bangladesh (LFMEAB), attended as a special guest. Leaders from industry associations in Bangladesh, China, India, and Pakistan were also present.
Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun highlighted that the leather industry in Bangladesh is poised to reach its full potential and emphasized the importance of events like LEATHERTECH in propelling the sector forward. He expressed confidence in the coordinated efforts between public and private sectors to advance the industry further.
Syed Nasim Manzur stated that the leather industry is at a pivotal moment to accelerate export-oriented manufacturing. He stressed the need for policy liberalization to strengthen connections with neighboring economies, which will aid technological development within the sector.
Mohiuddin Ahmed Mahin, Chairman of the Bangladesh Finished Leather, Leathergoods and Footwear Exporters’ Association (BFLLFEA), remarked on the promising nature of leather goods as an export sector and the role of events like LEATHERTECH in enhancing Bangladesh’s position in the international market.
Tipu Sultan Bhuiyan, Managing Director of ASK Trade and Exhibitions Pvt Ltd, organizers of the show, mentioned that the 11th edition features pavilions from various industry associations, including the Council Leather Exports India (CLE) and Pakistan Tanners Association (PTA), among others. He noted the participation of nearly 200 exhibitors from eight countries, making it the largest technology trade show for the leather sector in Bangladesh.
LEATHERTECH Bangladesh, which began eleven years ago, has evolved into a preferred platform for exploring the Bangladesh leather, footwear, and travel goods sector. It serves as a networking platform and has significantly contributed to the industry’s growth.
The leather and footwear industry is Bangladesh’s second-largest export sector, contributing approximately 3% to the global leather goods market. It is recognized as a priority sector for export diversification under the Industry Policy 2022, supported by a cost-competitive workforce and abundant raw materials.
Bangladesh’s leather and footwear exports showed resilience with a 9.7% growth in October FY25-26, reaching US$591.5 million, as reported by the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB). The technology, materials, and accessories showcased at LEATHERTECH Bangladesh 2025 are expected to benefit factories aiming to expand capacities and diversify product lines.
The tradeshow will be open from 11 am to 7 pm daily, with free entry for business visitors.
