Dhaka: Police have filed a case against 114 leaders and activists of the banned Awami League and its associate bodies in Ukhiya, alleging they held a secret meeting to plan acts of sabotage. The case also includes 50 to 60 unidentified accused.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the FIR was filed by Sub-Inspector Palash Barua under the Anti-Terrorism Act after police raided a house in the Nolbunia area of Palongkhali Union on Saturday following a tip-off about the alleged meeting.
Police reported that two individuals, Ward No. 8 Haldiapalong Union Awami League General Secretary Milon Barua and Abu Naser Mohammad Imran, were detained during the raid, while others managed to escape.
The case lists several local leaders from the Awami League, Jubo League, and Chhatra League, including Ukhiya Upazila Awami League President Jahangir Kabir Chowdhury and General Secretary Nurul Huda, as involved in the alleged plot.
Officer-in-Charge of Ukhiya Police Station, Atikur Rahman, stated that the two arrested individuals have been sent to jail by a court, and efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining accused.
