Chattogram: An 11-year-old girl who was critically injured after being hit by stray bullets fired by armed criminals in the Bayezid area of Chattogram has died at a hospital. The victim, Reshmi Akter, succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the incident occurred on May 7 when a local named Raju was killed in a gun attack by some miscreants in the Roufabad area under Bayezid Bostami Police Station. Reshmi Akter, unfortunately, suffered bullet injuries from stray bullets while she was on her way to a nearby shop.
Initially, Reshmi was taken to a local hospital and subsequently transferred to Chattogram Medical College and Hospital. Her condition worsened, prompting her transfer to the ICU on Friday. In response to the tragic events, Sakina Begum, the mother of Raju, filed a case.
Police have made significant progress in the investigation, arresting six individuals in connection to the shooting. Amirul Islam, deputy commissioner of North Zone of Chattogram Metropolitan Police, stated that Syedul Karim was apprehended from the Sugandha Sea beach area in Cox's Bazar. During preliminary interrogation, he confessed to his involvement in the shooting. Authorities recovered a foreign-made pistol, a magazine, and two rounds of bullets used during the incident.
