Manikganj: A total of 1,08,566 metric tons of mustard is expected to be produced from 68,947 hectares of land during the current season across seven upazilas of the district, according to Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE). DAE officials have set a production target for the season and noted that most farmers in the district cultivate mustard after harvesting Aman paddy, and then use the same land for Boro paddy cultivation.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Ahmad Ali, a mustard farmer from Gilanda village in Sadar upazila, shared that mustard cultivation and harvesting are relatively easy and require no irrigation. He emphasized that mustard, being an oilseed crop, has strong market demand throughout the year.

Deputy Director of DAE Shahjahan Siraj mentioned that the soil in Manikganj is highly suitable for mustard cultivation. He added that farmers are increasingly interested in growing mustard due to its profitability.
