Madaripur: In an effort to protect the environment and enhance the district's greenery, voluntary organizations Alor Pathshala and the anti-drug movement Pakhira have successfully planted 1,000 Krishnachura (Royal Poinciana) and Jarul (Queen Crape Myrtle) saplings in Sadar upazila.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the day-long planting program took place in the Pakhira area under Khowajpur union in Sadar upazila. This initiative follows the planting of 2,000 saplings in different parts of the district by the same organizations.
Asaduzzaman Saif, general secretary of Alor Pathshala, explained that the initiative was a response to the cutting of a banyan tree in the Kandi area of Alammir in Shirkhara union. He stated, "Today, we planted 1,000 Krishnachura and Jarul saplings. Our dream is to plant 100,000 trees across Madaripur. We also want the youth to stay away from drugs and come forward to protect nature and the environment."
The event was attended by Bayjid Mia, founder of 'Pashe Achi' Madaripur, Dadan Hossain, vice-president of Pakhira, volunteer Fakhruddin Raji, and leaders of various organizations.
