Women arrested after posing as IGP’s wife to influence recruitment

Police have arrested a female fraudster for posing as Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed’s wife.

The arrestee is Ruma Akhter (32), wife of Md Aslam Mia of Keraniganj’s Atibazar

According to the police, the woman cheated the IGP’s wife identity by calling Tangail district police super on November 7 and asked to appoint a candidate as a constable and sent the candidate’s information via SMS.

As the matter was proved to be fraudulent, the LIC branch of the police headquarters analyzed the technical information and identified the location of the female swindler in Atibazar Ghatarchar area of Keraniganj in Dhaka district, said police AIG (Media & PR) Md. Kamruzzaman.

On November 11, police raided the area at around 9 pm and arrested Ruma Akhter along with her husband Aslam.

A case has been filed against them under the Digital Security Act at Tangail Sadar Police Station.

Zeeshan Mirza, wife of IGP and president of Bangladesh Police Women’s Welfare Association (PUNAK) has requested all to take no fraudulent tactics in the appointment of constables and to be aware of fraudsters.
