US Secretary of State Antony J Blinken on Thursday said the United States and Bangladesh are united in their condemnation of terrorism and determination to prevent future attacks.
“We commend Bangladesh’s efforts to bring those responsible to justice and recommit to our strong counterterrorism partnership to prevent future attacks,” he said in a statement.
The US secretary of state said the United States stands with the people of Bangladesh on the fifth anniversary of the terrorist attack at the Holey Artisan Bakery in Dhaka that resulted in the deaths of 22 people, including one US citizen.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the loved ones of the victims,” he said. “The precious lives tragically lost will remain in our hearts today and always.”
Earlier, US Ambassador to Bangladesh Earl R Miller joined other diplomats to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the Holey Artisan Bakery attack.
