Tamim Iqbal is not interested in playing T20 internationals, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Nazmul Hasan said Saturday.

Nazmul came to the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the capital to watch the ongoing Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

“I told him to return to T20Is, but he is not interested. He requested me not to force him to make a comeback,” Nazmul said. “If he does not want to play T20Is, we should not force him.”

However, Tamim was not available for comment at the time of this report.

The southpaw scored two consecutive fifties for Minister Group Dhaka in his first two matches of the BPL.

A knee injury ruled the batter out of competitive cricket for a long time. He missed two home series against Australia, New Zealand, and the T20 World Cup.

Tamim recently played the Independence Cup, a 50-over domestic cricket event, in Sylhet.

The left-handed opener played 78 T20Is and scored 1758 runs with seven fifties and a hundred at a strike rate of 117.2.

Tamim scored two fifties in his last 10 T20I matches, with the last one being played in March 2020.
