A student leader at Sylhet Kanaighat Government College has alleged that he was beaten up by members of Bangladesh Chhatra League’s Dhaka University unit on the campus Friday night.

MM Abdullah Al Hadi (25), the president of BCL’s Sylhet Kanaighat Government College unit, Saturday morning lodged a complaint at the Shahbagh police station against 12 people, three named and nine unnamed.

The three accused named in the complaint are Amir Hamza, joint general secretary of Shaheed Sergeant Zahurul Haque Hall BCL, Palash, member of Jagannath Hall BCL, and Rudrik Rabbir of Dhaka College BCL unit.

According to the complaint, Hadi went to Dhaka University to meet the central wing president of BCL on Friday. Around 10 pm, when he was sitting at the university snacks counter, Hamza and others started abusing him verbally and then thrashed him.

The accused also snatched his wallet and mobile phone, before leaving the spot. The accused allegedly threatened Hadi of dire consequences.

Hadi claimed that locals took him to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital, where doctors administered 13 stitches in his forehead.

Officer-in-charge of the Shahbagh police station Mowdud Howladar said that action will be taken in the matter after a proper investigation. “We will also speak to the university authorities as well,” he said.

When contacted, Hamza refuted the allegations. “I was at the university’s Rokeya Hall to celebrate the birthday of BCL president at the time,” he added.
