Edotco Bangladesh, an integrated telecommunications infrastructure services company, signed an agreement with Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) Sunday to deploy smart poles in the SCC areas with the vision of building a smart city.
This partnership aims to ensure that citizens of SSC have accessible and improved connectivity.
This smart pole solution will help mobile network operators and other technology service providers to enhance network capacity or coverage and meet the emerging demand of increased data usage by the end consumers.
To meet the current growth in data traffic, this innovative and sustainable solution will support reducing data congestion, provide positive customer experiences.
In addition to improved connectivity access, an energy-saving LED light facility is integrated with the smart poles and will have the provisions to install other smart features like security surveillance and digital signage.
Initially, edotco will work with two sites under SSC, which expects to expand in the future upon a mutual understanding with the said authority.
SSC Mayor Ariful Haque Choudhury; Ricky Steyn, country managing director, Md Monowar Sikder, director of operations, and Reven Dewan, head of sales and marketing of edotco Bangladesh, were present at the signing ceremony.
Ariful said: “It is one of our commitments to convert Sylhet into a smart city, where improved city experiences will be available to all citizens. A consolidated and standardised mobile network structure is an inseparable component of a smart city. We are excited to jointly work with edotco to ensure that our citizens get the most accessible connectivity features.”

Earlier, edotco Bangladesh signed a memorandum of understanding with Dhaka North City Corporation to build the same kind of smart poles in the dense urban areas of the capital.
The company owns and operates over 12,000 telecom towers throughout Bangladesh.
