Rickshaw fare can now be paid through mobile financial service (MFS) provider Trust Axiata Pay (Tap).

The feature was launched Saturday as a pilot project. Humaira Azam, managing director and chief executive officer (CEO) Trust Bank, inaugurated it.

Dewan Nazmul Hasan, CEO of Tap, was also present at the event held in the capital’s Dhanmondi.

As part of the project, 300 rickshaw pullers were given ID cards with QR codes. Passengers will be able to send their fares to the driver’s wallet by scanning this code with the Tap app on their phones.

Rickshaw drivers will receive Tk10 bonus for every payment from Tap, which will be added on top of the fares they receive. They will be able to withdraw the money from any Tap agent.

Also, the passengers will receive 10 percent cash back when they pay the fare. The offer will be valid till January 22.

Humaira said: “Tap has taken this initiative to bring digital financial services to the grassroots level. We believe this is an important initiative towards ensuring digital services through mobile financial services.”

Nazmul said, “Tap is setting an example by starting this service in Dhaka. We want to make this available throughout the country.”

Tap is a joint venture company of Trust Bank, Bangladesh and Axiata Digital Services Sdn Bhd, Malaysia.
