There is a need for research to devise pragmatic strategies for taking the apparel industry to the next level of development, the Policy Research Institute of Bangladesh (PRI) vice-chairman and the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) chief said Saturday.

PRI Vice-Chairman Dr Sadiq Ahmed met BGMEA President Faruque Hassan and discussed challenges in the readymade garments (RMG) sector, ways to address them, opportunities and future priorities required to secure sustainable growth of the sector.

They also talked about how the BGMEA could strengthen its research capacity and industry-academia collaboration to face emerging challenges for the industry.

The challenges they identified included the ones posed by the Fourth Industrial Revolution and possible changes as the country graduates out of least developed countries (LDC) status.
