The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) busted a suspected militant hideout in Nilphamari district on Saturday and detained five members of Jamatul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).

The detainees have been identified as Abdullah Al Mamun, Zahidul Islam, Wahedul Ali, Mahmud and Rahidul. Wahedul is the military chief of the Rangpur unit of the banned militant outfit, officials said.

Acting on a tip-off, a RAB team cordoned off a house in the Putihari area of Sadar upazila in the early hours of Saturday, said ASP Imran Khan, assistant director (legal and media wing) at RAB headquarters.

Later, the team barged into the house and detained the five suspected militants. An improvised explosive device (IED) bomb, a number of explosive substances, arms and ammunition have been seized from their possession, officials said.
