After that, the Gala Premiere of ‘Nonajoler Kabbo’ was held in Star Cineplex, SKS Tower branch at 8 pm which was joined by Agriculture Minister Abdur Razzak, Information and Broadcasting Minister Hasan Mahmud, State Minister of Information and Broadcasting Murad Hasan, State Minister of Cultural Affairs KM Khalid, State Minister of Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam ,silver screen legend Alamgir, eminent writer-educator Syed Manzoorul Islam and many other dignitaries, alongside the cast and crew of the film.

Regarding his 7-year long journey behind his maiden directorial venture ‘Nonajoler Kabbo,’ director Rezwan Shahriar Sumit shared his emotional description with UNB on the premiere night.

“The journey has finally come to an end, and now the film is open for the audience all over the country. This film is an integral part of my being, and I have grown with it,” Sumit told UNB.

“We have recently (November 23 and 24) successfully completed 3 sessions of coastal screening in Patuakhali, as the film is made on the life of the fishing community and they were the first ones to watch it in the country, as per my commitment to the community. The area which we used for the shooting, a remote fishing community in Patuakhali, has disappeared due to river erosion. They were as emotional to see the land and story of their lives unfold on the silver screen, as it was emotional for me as well,” Sumit further said.

The film has recently been showcased and highly acclaimed in the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP-26) at the SEC Centre in Glasgow, Scotland.

Sumit told UNB that the audiences from different parts of the world lauded the film’s vision which was intended to bring a change in the life of the climate fighters, as well as the religious viewpoints of people, and make a start to end the intolerance that is present in the current society.

‘Nonajoler Kabbo’ stars Titas Zia, Fazlur Rahman Babu, Shatabdi Wadud, and Tasnova Tamanna as the lead actors. The film is sponsored by Fresh and distributed by Star Cineplex.

The background score was composed by popular singer and music director Arnob, who enthralled the moviegoers after a long hiatus from producing film scores.

“Arnob bhai is my most favourite musician and I am really honoured to have him on board for my maiden film. He completed the music while being in Shantiniketan, Kolkata alongside his team and perfectly brought the melody of the costal symphony, which I am sure will enthral the audiences as well,” Sumit shared his experience of working with Arnob.

Co-produced by Rezwan Shahriar Sumit and French producer Ilann Girard, ‘Nonajoler Kabbo’ has won several national-international awards and grants, including the NETPAC Award (Best Asian Feature) at 26th Kolkata International Film Festival in 2021, TFL Audience Design Fund 2020, Bangladesh’s National Film Grant in 2017, CNC Aide aux cinémas du monde 2018, and Spike Lee Writing Grant 2016, to name a few.
