The ICT State Minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak on Sunday said to reduce the cost and hassles of money transactions the government will start the Inter-operable Digital Transaction Platform (IDTP) from January next year.

The state minister said this at a workshop organized by Bangladesh Women Chamber of Commerce and Industries at the city’s Bangabandhu International Convention Center today.

Palak said the initiative aims at bringing people online through providing digital services.

Use of online banking, electronic money transfer, and ATM cards has increased the number of e-commerce in the country, he said.

“Until March, 2020 the market of the country’s e-commerce was around Tk 8,500 crore which doubled during the Covid-19 pandemic. By 2023 the market will hopefully reach Tk 25,000 crore,” said the state minister.

Palak announced 2, 000 small scale women entrepreneurs will be provided with Tk 50,000 each for developing and marketing.

The state minister said the government’s initiatives established a startup friendly ecosystem in the country.

Of the planned 39 high-tech parks already eight have been established where local and international investors have started investing already, said Palak.

These high-tech parks will ensure employment of more than three lakh people in the country after completion, he said.
