Indian President joins banquet hosted by his Bangladesh counterpart

On a three-day visit to Bangladesh, attended a banquet hosted in his honour by President Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban on Wednesday night.

President Hamid and his wife Rashida Khanom received Kovind, his wife and daughter at Bangabhaban.

The two presidents held a delegation-level meeting at Bangabhaban before going to the banquet, Joynal Abedin, press secretary to President Hamid said.

The Indian President and his entourage also enjoyed a cultural programme conducted by artistes of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in the darbar hall.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had a meeting with the Indian President in the afternoon while Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen also called on him.

President Kovind presented a replica of T-55 tank and a MiG-29 fighter jet which was used during the Great Liberation War of Bangladesh to President Hamid for display at Bangladesh National Museum.

Earlier in the day President Hamid greeted his Indian counterpart Ram Nath Kovind on his arrival at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

The Indian president is in Bangladesh to attend the 50th Victory Day celebrations of Bangladesh, the closing ceremony of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and 50 years of Bangladesh-India diplomatic relations.
