Low-lying areas of Kurigram, Shepur and Sirajganj districts have been flooded due to onrush of hill water and heavy rains for the last couple of days, causing immense sufferings to local people.
Roads, houses, seedbeds and schools went under water due to the flash flood.
In Kurigram, the local Water Development Board (WDB) said on Tuesday that the water level of all the rivers including Dharla, Teesta and Brahmaputra rose again, but flowing below the danger level.
The water level of Dharla river had risen by 12 cm till 3 pm on Tuesday, said WDB.
In Sherpur, heavy rains and onrush of hill water from across the border damaged about 82 feet of road, including a U-drain, on the Ahmednagar-Dighirpar road in Jhenaigati upazila.
The road used as an alternative route for the passers-by on the Maharashmi river embankment was also damaged.
As a result, direct road communication was cut off and about 3000 people were suffering.
In Sirajganj the water level of Jamuna river rose to 31 cm in the last 24 hours and the low-lying areas already inundated, confirmed local WDB sub-divisional Engineer Nasir Uddin.
Several hectares of crop fields in the district went under flood water.
Last year, a total of 159 upazilas across the country were affected in the flood that set in during the last week of June to August.
People in Kurigram, Gaibandha, Sunamganj, Sirajganj, Tangail, Faridpur and Naogaon were the worst sufferers from the deluge.
