No casualties were immediately reported.

On information, eight fire-fighting units rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control around 6pm.

The fire is believed to have started due to a mechanical fault in the machine.

However, the exact extent of loss and source of fire could not be ascertained until the fire is completely extinguished, the official said.

Syed Nazrul Islam, senior administrative officer of Janata Jute Mill, said the whole unit with 50-60 mounds of jute and machineries were gutted in the fire.
