Covid in Bangladesh: Both cases and deaths fall further

Both the Covid-19 cases and fatalities in Bangladesh dropped further as the country logged 86 deaths and 3,357 new cases respectively in 24 hours till Tuesday morning.

The country last saw 112 Coronavirus-related deaths on June 29 and the upswing in the fatalities reached its peak on August 5 and 10 when 264 deaths were recorded.

The fresh number pushed the country’s total fatalities to 26,195 while the cases reached 1,500, 618, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The new cases were detected after the test of 28,097 samples during the last 24 hours, which reduced the daily case positivity rate to 11.95% from Monday’s 12.07 %, said the DGHS.

The recovery rate rose to 95.03%, while the case fatality to 1.75 % compared to the corresponding period.

Among the new deaths, 22 died in Dhaka division, 19 in Chattogram,15 in Khulna, nine in Sylhet, 12 in Rajshahi, and five in Rangpur, two each in Barishal and Mymensingh divisions.

Of them, 44 were men and 42 women.

The country has been experiencing a surge of Covid-related caseloads and deaths since June 2021.

Between May and June this year, there was a 273% rise in monthly caseloads and 162% in fatalities. In July, there was a 150% increase in caseloads and a 170% rise in deaths compared to the previous month, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
