Buses to operate on trial route under special arrangement from December 26 in Dhaka

Under a special arrangement for bus route rationalization, buses will operate on Ghatarchar-Kanchpur trial route from December 26 under a company.

So far eight individuals and companies expressed interest in operating 157 buses on this route, said Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) in a press release on Sunday.

Of them Jahan Enterprise is interested in operating 100 buses, Trans Silva 38, Mostofa Helal Kabir 6, HR Transport agency 5, ML Lovely Paribahan 4, Ikbal Enterprise 2, Rajanigandha Paribahan one and Md Waliullah one.

The interested organizations submitted the interest form to the Dhaka Transport Cooperation Authority (DTCA) office within the set deadline, said the release.

Bus route rationalization is an initiative aimed at bringing discipline to Dhaka’s public transport sector and reducing traffic jams.

Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperative Ministry issued a gazette in this regard on September 10, 2018.

DSCC mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh said soon the necessary number of buses will get approval after verifying the submitted papers.

Earlier the mayor told UNB that in all, 120 new buses will ply on this route.

Besides, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayor Atiqul Islam said that the drivers and helpers of these buses will have separate uniform. “There will be more than 40 stops and 16 bus bays on this route,” he added.
