Bangabandhu National Swimming concludes with Navy reigning supreme

The Bangabandhu 30th National Swimming, Diving and Water Polo Championship’ 2021 concluded on Sunday at the Syed Nazrul Islam National Swimming pool in Mirpur, featuring eleven new national records.

Bangladesh Navy established the absolute supremacy in the three-day meet securing 38 gold, 23 silver and eight bronze medals, Bangladesh Army were in distant 2nd place collecting five gold, 18 silver and 19 bronzes while BKSP finished 3rd with one silver and 12 bronze medals.

Kajal Miah of Bangladesh Navy was adjudged the best men’s athlete of the meet securing five gold medals with three nation records while Sonia Khatun, also from Navy, was adjudged the best female athlete earning three gold and two silver medals.

State Minister for Youth and Sports M Zahid Ahsan Russell MP was the chief guest at the closing function Sunday afternoon and distributed the prizes of the meet, organized on the occasion of the birth centenary of the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Senior Vice President of Bangladesh Swimming Federation (BSF) and chairman of the meet’s sponsor Max Group Golam Mohammad Alamgir was also present on the occasion as special guest.

In the Water Polo competition, Bangladesh Army emerged champions beating Bangladesh Navy while Bangladesh Air Force finished..

Some 564 swimmers and officials from 65 teams including BKSP, Army, Navy, Air Force and Police are expected to participate in the meet.

Thirty eight swimming events—19 for the men’s and 19 for women’s, three diving events and a Water Polo competition will be held during the three-day meet.
