Bangabandhu Biopic: A joint production of Bangladesh and India

The shooting of the Bangabandhu Biopic film was scheduled to start on March 18, 2020, the day after the celebration of the first Mujib Centenary. The plan was halted by the pandemic Coronavirus. The filming of Bangabandhu started in Mumbai on January 21, 2021. For the film, the shooting in Bangladesh started on the first of November. The new release date is March 2022. Story of Bangabandhu throughout the screenplay

Apart from the significant political career of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, viewers will discover the beloved leader of millions of Bengalis as a child, a husband, and a father.

Screenwriters Shyama Zaidi and Atul Tiwari rely heavily on primary sources for research in writing the biopic. And this primary source was none other than the daughter of Bangabandhu, Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina.

Zaidi and Tiwari have artistically designed the screenplay with their best to highlight the entire life of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Furthermore, the Prime Minister of Bangladesh has been cooperating with the screenwriters for a long time to serve every important moment thoroughly.

The making of ‘Bangabandhu’, a historical biopic

Eighty-six-year-old Indian director Shyam Benegal has been directing the biopic since its inception. Dedicated to the genre of biography, Shyam Benegal has previously worked on biographies of Subhas Bose, Gandhi, and Nehru.

By April 2021, Bangabandhu’s personal and family part of the film was shooted in various places including Dadasaheb Film City in Mumbai. The shooting, which started in November, will focus on his political aspects.

Dayal Nihalani is co-directing the film, while Nitish Roy is taking care of the art direction. The costume is directed by Pia Benegal, daughter of Shyam Benegal. Akashdeep Pandey is acting as the cinematographer. Music is directed by Shantanu Maitra.

The final casting of ‘Bangabandhu’

In the movie, the popular film star Arefin Shuvo will star as Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The role of Bangabandhu’s wife Sheikh Fazilatunnesa will be played by talented actress Nusrat Imroz Tisha. Prarthana Fardin Dighi will appear as teenager Fazilatunnesa alias Renu.

Veteran actor Chanchal Chowdhury and Dilara Zaman will star the roles of Bangabandhu’s father and mother respectively. Notable actor Khairul Alam Sabuj will be seen in the role of Bangabandhu’s father Sheikh Lutfar Rahman for 65 to 94 years old.

Divya Jyoti will play the character of teenage Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Jannatul Sumaiya Himi will star the character of Bangabandhu’s daughter Sheikh Hasina. Sabila Noor will appear as Sheikh Rehana. Nusrat Faria will be seen in the role of Sheikh Hasina as a teenager.

Besides, Shahidul Alam Sachchu will appear as AK Fazlul Haque, Fazlur Rahman Babu as Khandaker Mushtaq Ahmed, Raisul Islam Asad as Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani, Riaz as Tajuddin Ahmed, Sayem Samad as Syed Nazrul Islam, Gazi Khan as Abdul Hamid, Toukir Ahmed as Hussain Shaheed Suhrawardy, Samu Chowdhury as Kamaruzzaman, Misha Saudagar as General Ayub Khan, Siam Ahmed as Shamsul Haque, and Elena Shammi as Khaleda Zia.

In a nutshell

The shooting of the big-budget film ‘Bangabandhu’ is supposed to be completed by March 2022. If everything goes according to the plan, the biopic will be released on Bangabandhu’s birth anniversary. On November 17, a film-making team from Mumbai arrived in Dhaka to handle the rest of the filming. Now the film titled ‘Bangabandhu’ is on its way to making history in the Dhaliwood industry, which will be forever showcased in the Bangladesh-India movie gallery.
