Memorable Victories of Bangladesh in BAN vs. NZ Contest

There have been a number of thrilling cricket matches between Bangladesh and New Zealand, but deciding which games are the finest is always tough. We have compiled a list of Bangladesh’s three most memorable triumphs over New Zealand.

3) Ireland Tri-Nation Series, 6th match

Venue: Clontarf Cricket Club Ground, Dublin

Prior to the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy, Bangladesh competed in a tri-nation series. In the series, Ireland, Bangladesh, and New Zealand competed. The pitches were fast, and the weather was ideal for Ireland and New Zealand players. Bangladesh, on the other hand, had shown true tenacity throughout the series, defeating New Zealand in the competition’s sixth match.

Batted first, New Zealand scored 270/8 in their allotted 50 overs. Tom Latham (84), Neil Broom (63), and Ross Taylor (60) made the biggest contributions with the bat. Bangladesh’s bowlers put up a strong showing in the death overs, causing New Zealand’s innings to crumble.

In the chase, Tamim Iqbal (65) and Sabbir Rahman (65) had a superb second-wicket partnership that helped Bangladesh stay firm in the game. Mushfiqur Rahim (45) and Mahmudullah (46) then put up two solid innings to help the team to a 5-wicket victory with 10 balls to spare. Bangladesh had a fantastic victory that aided their performance in the Champions Trophy.

2) Bilateral ODI Series, 1st ODI

Venue: Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur

It was the first match of the 3-match bilateral series against New Zealand at home. Bangladesh stunned New Zealand with a 7-wicket victory in the first match on a favorable pitch. It was also Bangladesh’s first-ever victory over New Zealand.

Batted first, New Zealand batters struggled to deal with Bangladesh’s spinners, losing wickets at regular intervals. As a result, they only managed to score 201/9 in the 50 overs. The leading scorer for the Kiwis was Jacob Oram (57). All of Bangladesh’s spinners performed well, although Abdur Razzak took the most wickets with three.

In the chase, Junaid Siddique’s 85-run knock and Mohammad Ashraful’s unbroken 60*-run innings helped Bangladesh win with 27 balls to spare. Bangladesh had an easy victory, but it astonished everyone.

1) ICC Champions Trophy

Venue: Sophia Gardens, Cardiff

Bangladesh qualified for the Champions Trophy 2017 semifinals after defeating New Zealand in their final group stage game in Cardiff. Bangladesh were carried to victory by a record-breaking stand between Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah Riyad.

New Zealand batted first and made 265 runs in 50 overs for the loss of 8 wickets. For Bangladesh, Mosaddek Hossain grabbed the most wickets with three.

Bangladesh responded by losing four wickets for only 33 runs at the start of the innings. However, a magnificent 224-run stand between Shakib and Mahmudullah in the fifth wicket repaired the innings. Shakib was dismissed for 114 runs, while Mahmudullah scored an unbeaten 102* runs to take Bangladesh home. It was one of Bangladesh’s most memorable victories in cricket.
