AFC Women’s Asian Cup; Bangladesh to play Jordan on Sunday

Bangladesh National Women’s Football team, now in Uzbekistan, will start their Group G campaign of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup taking on stronger Jordan on Sunday.

The match will kick-off at 4 pm Bangladesh time at the Milliy stadium in Tashkent, previously known as Bunyodkor Football Stadium.

In the remaining match of the three-team group G, Bangladesh women’s will play Islamic Republic of Iran on Wednesday (Sept 22) at the same time and same venue.

Only the group champions will qualify for the final round of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup in India next year.

After reaching Tashkent, all the players and officials of Bangladesh team tested negative for Covid-19 and everyone of Bangladesh team was in sound health and safe.

Ahead of the Sunday’s match, Bangladesh team had their practices at the training ground of the Bunyodkor stadium Saturday morning from 11:30 to 1 pm and later the team visited the match venue.

Manager of the Bangladesh team Amirul Islam Babu said, ‘”Our girls have adjusted with local weather, they are fully satisfied having a good practices on a good ground and are satisfied with local facilities and hospitality.”

“We expect a good result from our team tomorrow playing a good football, we appeal to our country’s people to pray for us for a good result and to return home safely,” he added.

On way to Uzbekistan, Bangladesh Women’s team played two FIFA Tier-1 Women’s International Friendlies against Nepal National Women’s team in Kathmandu recently as a part of their preparations for this month’s AFC Women’s Asian Cup Qualifiers.

In two preparatory matches in Kathmandu, , touring Bangladesh conceded 1-2 goal defeat against Himalayan nation Nepal in the first match and played to a goalless draw in the 2nd match last Sunday.

With the matches, Bangladesh national women’s team returned to international football after more than two and half years since playing the semifinal of SAFF Championship with India in March 2019.
