DHAKA, March 28, 2017 (BSS) - Bangladesh Ambassador to the United States Mohammad Ziauddin has briefed the US Congressman James Sensenbrenner, Jr. about the ongoing development activities in Bangladesh with special focus on counterterrorism, education and women empowerment.
During the briefing in Washington DC on Monday, he highlighted the 'zero tolerance' policy of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina against all forms of terrorism and violent extremism, according to a message received here today.
The Ambassador said Bangladesh is closely working with the USA, neighbors and other friendly countries to eliminate extremism and terrorism from Bangladesh.
He mentioned about the existing counterterrorism cooperation between Bangladesh and the USA, especially in intelligence sharing and other capacity building measures.
The Bangladesh envoy also informed the Congressman about the modernization of the madrasa education system in Bangladesh so that madrasa students can better adapt with the society and can stay out of the extremist ideology.
Highlighting women empowerment in Bangladesh, he mentioned the women in the key positions like Prime Minister, Leader of the Opposition, Deputy Leader in Parliament, Speaker, five Cabinet Ministers and many more in other important positions.
He mentioned about Bangladeshi Women Peace Keepers engaged in various UN peacekeeping operations.
In RMG sector, he said at least 90 percent workers in RMG sector are women and these four million workers are transforming the society through alleviating poverty and containing the menace of terrorism.
Commenting on countering terrorism and violent extremism, Congressman Sensenbrenner said that the exchange of information is very important to stop terrorist attacks before these take place, the message added.
