DHAKA, April 20, 2017 (BSS) - State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid yesterday said the power and energy crisis could be resolved through utilizing the innovative ideas and techniques of the youths.
"It is our firm belief that our young generations can move forward with their innovative ideas and techniques to resolve the country's electricity and energy crisis," he told this as the chief guest while inaugurating a function at Bashundhara Convention Centre here.
Bangladesh Independent Power Producers Association (BIPPA) organized the function titled "Power and Energy Hackathon 2017" in collaboration with Dorin and Ekran Infrastructure Services.
The state minister said the government is working to mitigate power and energy crisis with limited resources aimed at materializing Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's promise by ensuring electricity to all in 2021.
"The country's power and energy crisis can be resolved with participation of young scientists in various innovative activities," he added.
As many as 390 teams and 49 information technology teams from universities and colleges have registered for the "Power and Energy Hackathon 2017 competition.
Out of the total, some 150 teams would manufacture their prototype in 36 hours' efforts. A total of 40-member specialist team would find the best 21 innovators from seven divisions of the team.
"We have a long term plan for the innovated prototype and the ministry would provide support for implementation and marketing of those prototypes. We care ready for mentorship and fund," Nasrul said.
During the function, emphasis was given on issues like effective fuel and electricity for households, marine energy, industrial power and energy crisis, biomass gas stove replacement, implementation of smart grid technologies, green and renewable energy solutions and cheap electricity connection confirmation.
Among others, secretary concerned, officials and power cell director general were present at the programme.
