Xi Jinping greets President Md Shahabuddin

Chinese President Xi Jinping today congratulated Bangladesh's new President Md Shahabuddin.

"I am delighted to learn that you have assumed office as president of the People's Republic of Bangladesh. On behalf of the Government of People's Republic of China and its people as well as in my own name, I would like to convey my heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to you," the Chinese president said in a letter sent to Bangladesh's new president.

Mentioning that China and Bangladesh are traditionally friendly neighbours, he said since the establishment of diplomatic relations, the two countries have always respected each other, treated each other as equals, and supported each ether on issues concerning each others core interests, which has set an example of friendly coexistence and win-win cooperation between the two countries.

"I attach great importance to the development of China-Bangladesh relations, and I stand ready to work with you, to carry forward the traditional friendship between our two countries, jointly build 'Belt and Road Initiative' with high quality and keep promoting the China-Bangladesh Strategic Partnership forward to better benefit the two peoples," Xi Jinping said.

He added: "I wish you (Bangladesh's new president) good health and every success in your future endeavours. I wish prosperity to the country and happiness to the people of Bangladesh."
