Writ filed seeking lawyers’ security act

A writ petition was filed with the High Court (HC) on Monday seeking measures to formulate lawyers’ security act.

Advocate Forhad Uddin Ahmed filed the writ petition.

Authorities including the secretaries of the Law Ministry and Bar Council, Chairman of Bar Council, Inspector General of Police were made respondents to the writ petition.

The bench of Justice Farah Mahmud and Justice SM Moniruzzaman may hear the writ next week.

The writ also sought a rule seeking explanation as to why the authorities’ inactivity regarding this should not be declared illegal.

At least 67 lawyers have been victims of attack, abduction, murder and assault in the past few years, the writ said.

Lawyers get no security after they go out from the court rooms, it added.
