The World AIDS Day was observed here today with the theme "Hands up for HIV Prevention" across the country as elsewhere in the world.
Marking the day, Health and Family Welfare Ministry organized a discussion on HIV at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the city where Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim addressed the function as the chief guest.
Presided over by the Health Secretary Sirajul Islam, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Biman Kumar Saha, Director General of Directorate General of Health Service Prof Abul Kalam Azad and Director General of Directorate of Family Planning Dr Wahid Hossain, addressed the discussion, among others.
Besides, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) took comprehensive programme to mark the day including awareness rally, distributing t-shirts, leaflets and posters on AIDS.
Led by BSMMU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Kamrul Hasan Khan the rally was brought out from the Bottala premises on the campus and it was ended at newly built 2 no outdoor premises on the campus followed by a brief discussion.
BSMMU Pro-VC (administration) Professor Dr Md Sharfuddin Ahmed, Pro-VC (academic) Professor Dr ASM Zakaria, Treasurer Professor Dr Md Ali Asgar Murol and Proctor Dr Md Habibur Rahman Dulal participated at the rally, among others.
