Wife slaughtered by husband in Joypurhat

A 31-year-old woman was slaughtered by her husband over a family dispute on Tuesday night in Akkelpur Upazila of Joypurhat district.

The deceased was identified as Panna Begum, 31, wife of Sirajul Islam, resident of Gudumba-Purbapara village of Akkelpur Upazila.

Jaipurhat Superintendent of Police Mohammad Noore Alam confirmed the matter.

The Superintendent of Police said that the husband and wife often quarrel over family disputes and not having any children.

Following an argument, Sirajul Islam slaughtered Panna Begum on Tuesday night and went to the mosque quietly with other worshipers of the village to perform Shab-e-Barat prayers, leaving the body on the floor.

An hour later, he returned from the mosque and started screaming, pretending to be surprised to see the bloodied body of his wife, said the SP.

Panna Begum’s father Anwar Hossain filed a case with Akkelpur Police Station in this regard.

Police arrested Sirajul Islam with three others in this incident on Tuesday night and he confessed to killing his wife brutally in police interrogation.
