Week-long National Jute Day to be observed on March 6

DHAKA, Feb 9, 2017 (BSS) - The week-long National Jute Day-2017 will be observed throughout the country on March 6 amid enthusiasm with a view to make jute goods popular among the people.

State Minister for Textile and Jute Mirza Azam announced this while presiding in the national committee meeting held at the ministry's conference room here this morning.

"The country is going to observe the National Jute Day for the first time in state level as the government has approved the day in the cabinet meeting on January 30 this year," said the State Minister while addressing in the inter-ministerial committee meeting.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate the day at

Krishibid Institution, Bangladesh .

The day will be observed at all the districts and upazilas across the country including the capital in Dhaka centrally, said the meeting.

The slogan of the day has primarily fixed "The country of golden fiber, Jute goods of Bangladesh." (Sonali Ashey-Sonar Desh, Patpannya Bangladesh).

To this end, a 36-members national committee has been formed with

Textiles and Jute minister as its President.

Additional Secretary of the Textile and Jute Ministry has been made Member Secretary of the committee. In addition to this, a 34-members district committee and 26-members upazila and hill tracts district committee also have been formed to observe the day.

Various colorful events including decoration of important places in the capital with lights and festoons, rally, cultural programmes, boat rally and displaying of diversified jute goods also will be arranged to mark the day.

Even the day will be observed at all the Jute Mills under the Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (BJMC), the minister added.

Senior ministry officials, city corporation officials, representatives

from law enforcing agencies, different government and non-government

organizations, among others, were present in the first meeting of the

national committee.
