Vivo is a China-based multinational tech company that is best known for its smartphones. The company rose to prominence with its camera phones which propelled them to the top 10 phone makers in the world in 2015. Vivo currently has several lineups with the X series being their top-of-the-line flagship offerings. The company launched their latest Vivo X80 Pro 5G on 29th April 2022 globally. Here’s a detailed take on the device so that users can decide whether to go for it or not.

Design and Build Quality
Before diving into the details of the Vivo X80 Pro 5G, it’s important to note that this is a through and through camera phone. Vivo has done some next-level stuff here which will be discussed in detail later.
The X80 Pro completely resembles the X70 Pro with its matte black finish and an almost one-third-spaced camera housing on the back. The most obvious change is the module itself. Now the camera comes in a circular module whereas the X70 Pro had a vertical setup. But the base of the camera remains the same ceramic rectangular design.
The stainless-steel frame and the overall matte finish exudes premium quality in the device. All the buttons and ports are as usual. Users won’t be getting any headphone jack just like the X70 Pro. There isn’t any micro SDXC support so users will have to choose between 256 GB or the 512 GB option.
The under-display fingerprint is a 3D ultrasonic sensor now. Vivo has perfected the ultrasonic tech to give a lightning-fast response. At about 215 gm and 6.48-inch in height, this is not a small phone by any means. But the premium design, material, and overall finish definitely put it among the top.
The Display
The best thing about Vivo X80 Pro is that the brand has tried to incorporate something groundbreaking in every department. The display also got a little upgrade which is worth talking about. The panel itself is an LTPO3 AMOLED panel with a 120 Hz refresh rate, 2K resolution, HDR10+ support, and 1500 nits brightness.
The specialty here is the E5 technology used in the panel. The E5 tech allows the device to significantly reduce power consumption. On average, a 2K AMOLED panel with a high-power chipset can last about 4 to 5 hours of continuous usage. But the E5 tech allows to stretch that to up to 6 to 7 hours.
Moving on to the performance, it’s as expected from a high-end display. The colors look sharp and crisp with 1B color support. The viewing angles of the panel are excellent and the 1500 nits offer perfect outdoor visibility. Overall, be it for casual use or media consumption, this device is guaranteed to offer a phenomenal experience.
The Camera
The camera system on the X80 Pro is the highlight of the entire device. The quad-camera setup has a 50 MP main lens, 48 MP ultrawide, 12 MP telephoto, and an 8 MP periscope for those ultra-zoom shots. Needless to say, each lens is more than capable of its purposes.
The main lens has been changed to Samsung’s new GNV sensor. In addition to OIS and PDAF, Vivo actually included a physical micro gimbal in the main sensor. Such camera techs are unheard of before. The front camera is the same 32 MP sensor found in the X70 Pro. Vivo could improve the selfie sensor.
It is important to note that Vivo has collaborated with Zeiss for the post-processing and color rendition on the X80 Pro and the partnership delivers. Zeiss incorporated their T lens coating and pixel shift technology along with luts support. Yes, the same luts that are used in Lightroom or After Effects are now present in the stock camera app of the X80 Pro.
All of these features bring out a scintillating result. There really isn’t any drawback to the camera here. The cinematic mode, ultra-zoom, portrait mode, oval bokeh, and even the night mode – everything exceeded the level of expectation. Part of the post-processing development can be attributed to the new V1 chip that Vivo included specifically for photo and video post-processing. Overall, this is a camera system that is easily the new standard to beat for all the competitors out there.

In addition to being powerful, the 4 Nm architecture offers incredible efficiency at a fraction of the power consumption. The device absolutely blazes through everything that is thrown at it. Whether it’s 3D games or casual social media browsing, this device will perform with equal dexterity. Depending on the region, the device will either run the Android 12, or Funtouch 12 or Origin OS Ocean. However, many users have complained about bloatware in its OS. And, its UI shows Ads which irritates the users.
