Victory Day for Democracy celebrated in Ctg

CHITTAHONG, Jan 5, 2017 (BSS) - Awami League (AL) and its front organizations today celebrated Victory Day for Democracy through various programmes.

Hundreds of leaders and activists of AL and its front organizations gathered at city's Shahid Minar premises marking the third anniversary of January-5 general election (Victory Day for Democracy).

City AL President and former Mayor A B M Mohiuddin Chowdhury led a huge rally and presided over the discussion meeting while Chittagong city Mayor A J M Nasir Uddin, city AL vice president Mahtab Uddin Chowdhury, Sabiha Musa MP, AL leader Khurshed Alam Sujan, CDA Chairman Abdus Salam and Advocate Iftakher Saimul among others addressed the function.

Mohiuddin Chowdhury said that Bangabandhu daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina not only filled the constitutional void but also protected the country's democracy by holding 10th Jatiya Sangsad (Parliament) polls on January 5 in 2014.

He blasted BNP-Jammat and allies for their widespread violence, vandalism, killing, anarchy and creating panic in their bid to install an unconstitutional government by thwarting the national polls.

City Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin said people of the country would never forget BNP led ally's nefarious game of playing with the bloods of the masses.

He called upon BNP to come to the path of democracy and participate in the next general election.
