Victory Day celebrated in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD, Dec 17, 2016 (BSS) - Bangladesh High Commission in Islamabad celebrated the 45th Anniversary of victory of Bangladesh with great enthusiasm and festivity on Friday.

A day-long programme was organized at the chancery premises with the participation of the expatriate Bangladesh community in Islamabad and the officers and staff members of the High Commission. The chancery building and premises were nicely decorated with colorful paper-made chains and Victory Day posters and were illuminated with colorful lights in the evening.

The morning session of the programme began with the ceremonial hoisting of the national flag by High Commissioner Tarik Ahsan at the chancery premises in presence of all the officers and staff members of the high commission.

In the evening, a discussion meeting highlighting the significance of the victory day was arranged. At the beginning, one minute silence was observed to pay homage to the memory of the martyrs of the War of Liberation.

Then, messages from the President, Prime Minister, foreign minister and the state minister for foreign affairs, released on the occasion of the Victory Day, were read out by the senior officials of the high commission.

In the discussion, members of the Bangladesh community as well as officers and staff members of the high commission took part. They highlighted the background of the War of Liberation and the contribution of the freedom fighters and others concerned.

High Commissioner Tarik Ahsan, in his speech, paid rich tributes to the memories of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, at whose call, people from all walks of life joined the War of Liberation.

He expressed profound gratitude for the sacrifices of the valiant freedom fighters, the martyrs, the wounded and the mothers and sisters who lost their dignity during the War of Liberation.

After the discussion, a special prayer was offered seeking the eternal peace of the souls of Bangabandhu and the martyrs of the Liberation War.

Later, a documentary film on Liberation War was screened. The day-long programme was rounded off with a buffet dinner where various Bangladeshi delicacies were served.
