Uprooting communalism vital for honouring Nazrul: Quader

DHAKA, May 25, 2017 (BSS)- Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader today said the celebration of Nazrul's birth anniversary would not be meaningful if the root of communalism is not uprooted from the society with people's support.

"Celebration of the birth anniversary of our National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam would become successful if we could uproot the base of communalism from the country, Quader told newsmen after paying rich tributes to the poet through placing wreaths at his grave on Dhaka University campus here.

AL Office Secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap, Science and Technology Affairs Secretary Abdus Sabur, Cultural Secretary Ashim Kumar Ukil, Relief and Social Welfare Secretary Sujit Roy Nandi and Deputy Office Secretary Barrister Biplob Barua, among others, were accompanying the minister.

Referring to Nazrul's granddaughter Khilkhil Kazi's demand for translating the literary works of the poet into different languages, Quader said this is now a demand from all of us. He urged the cultural affairs ministry to take necessary steps in this regard.

Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor, Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique and Khilkhil Kazi also paid rich tributes to Kazi Nazrul Islam by placing wreaths on his grave.

Asaduzzaman Noor said, "Love and affection are not enough to know Nazrul...if you want to know about him you should read his literature and follow the ideals of the poet."

DU VC Siddique said, "We receive strength and inspiration from Nazrul's literature to overcome crisis."

Besides, Bangla Academy, Shilpakola Academy, National Museum, National Archives and Library, Nazrul Institute, Shishu Academy and different socio, cultural and political organizations paid rich tributes to Nazrul.
