Two to die for Jatrabari double-murder

A Dhaka court today sentenced two persons to death for sensational Jatrabari double-murder committed last year.

"Judge Abdur Rahman Sarder of Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribuunal-4 sentenced Sayeed Hawlader and his friend Riyaj to death and fined them Taka 20 thousand each while the both accused were present on the dock," a court official said.

According to the case documents, the duo killed Rawshan Ara, 64, and her maid Kalpana, 12, by slitting their throats on March 24, 2015. Of these, Kalpana is the sister of Sayeed.

Rawshan Ara's brother Mojammel Hossain filed a murder case the next day, suspecting the near ones of Kalpana behind the murder.

Police later nabbed Sayeed and he confessed killing the two with the help of his friend Riyaj over an altercation with Rawshan Ara as he demanded some money from her. Both the accused later gave confessional statements before the court.
