Two rice mill workers die in B’baria road crash

Two rice mill workers were killed and three others injured when a speeding vehicle ran over them on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Sonarampur of Ashuganj upazila on Wednesday.

One of the deceased was identified as Hidar Ali, 30, son of Abdul Malek of Sadar upazila in Dinajpur district, while the identity of another victim aged about 28 could not be known immediately.

The accident occurred around 6am when the five workers were walking towards their place of work, said Shahjalal Alam, officer-in-charge of Khatihata Highway Police.

“The speeding vehicle ran over them, killing two on the spot. The injured were taken to a local hospital,” he said.

The bodies have been sent to the local hospital morgue for post-mortem. “Efforts are on to identify the vehicle and its driver,” the OC said.
